Antiguamente, las orillas del río Hudson no era un lugar nada recomendable para ningún turista, pues era frecuentado por gentes de dudosa reputación, como prostitutas, traficantes y pequeños delincuentes. Pero afortunadamente, hace unos años, los márgenes del río se han limpiado y renovado para convertirse en una de las zonas ajardinadas más apetecibles para pasear en Nueva York, después de Central Park, evidentemente.

Es un paseo a lo largo del río Hudson que se extiende desde Battery Park hasta la 59 y está repleto de las más variadas actividades de ocio, muy recomendable si viajas con niños o adolescentes. Podrás caminar, ir en bicicleta, alquilar un bote, patinar, jugar a tenis o a baloncesto, pescar, ir al cine al aire libre, visitar alguno de los muelles más emblemáticos de la ciudad o simplemente tomar el sol.

Por ejemplo, te recomendamos no perderte los Muelles de Chelsea, a la altura de la calle 20, que era donde antaño amarraban los cruceros. De hecho, el Titanic se dirigía hasta aquí. Hoy también alberga un gran centro comercial que te ofrece un sinfín de posibilidades, desde comida exótica, clases de escalada o un fantástico spa.

Y si te apasiona la historia bélica, acércate al muelle 86, a la altura de la 44. Allí encontrarás el Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum. Este museo abrió sus puertas en 1982 para mostrarnos el portaaviones USS Intrepid CV-11, un barco veterano que estuvo en presente en la Segunda Guerra Mundial y también en la Guerra del Vietnam. Podrás conocer los secretos del barco, los detalles de los aviones y las proezas de los héroes de guerra.

Como has podido comprobar, pasear por el Hudson River Park y olvidarse del ajetreo de la ciudad puede ser una experiencia de lo más relajante. Simplemente es otra de las caras de Nueva York.
