El norte del barrio histórico de Little Italy, de ahí su nombre No-Lita, ha sido redescubierto por los neoyorquinos y transformado en una zona de lo más chic, tal y como sucedió con el SoHo años atrás.

Antiguamente esta zona, situada entre la Houston Street y la Kenmare Street, era frecuentada por los vecinos del barrio y poco más, ya que apenas había comercios italianos y algunas pequeñas trattorias. Desde mediados de 1990, en cambio, los yuppies comenzaron a venir hasta aquí y hoy, además de tener el precio del metro cuadrado por las nubes, el barrio está repleto de boutiques, excelentes restaurantes de autor y cafés llenos de glamour. Lo cierto es que recorrer las calles Elizabeth, Mott y Mulberry puede ser una forma ideal de pasar una tarde de compras, especialmente en busca de complementos, darse un homenaje gastronómico y acabar tomando alguna copa en una estupenda terraza.

Además de sus tiendas de moda, también es de obligada visita la Antigua Catedral de San Patricio, Old Saint Patrick’s Cathedral, abierta en 1815 y reedificada en 1866 tras un incendio, con un interior de estilo gótico georgiano que sorprende a todos.

Y como último detalle del barrio, te recomendamos acercarte a admirar el Puck Building, situado entre las calles Houston, Lafayette, Mulberry y Jersey. Diseñado por Albert y Herman Wagner en 1885 y ampliado en 1893, el edificio albergó la redacción de la revista “Puck Magazine”, ya desaparecido, y hoy es esencialmente conocido por sus 2 esculturas doradas de Puck, el personaje de “Sueño de una noche de verano”, de Shakespeare.
