Carrer Petritxol

Carrer Petritxol (28)

This small, narrow street, barely 129 metres long, is very typical of its kind in the city and much loved by its inhabitants who often go to its coffee shops for homemade cakes. This custom comes from the last century when the “chic” members of Barcelona society would stroll down the Ramblas on a Sunday and then stop for a glass of milk or hot chocolate.

So if you fancy breakfast or afternoon tea, let yourself be tempted by one of these establishments to a Suizo, which is hot chocolate topped with fresh whipped cream, crema catalana or custard. We recommend places like La Pallaresa or Dulcinea.

Here, you will also find the Sala Parés, a renowned art gallery of international prestige. The gallery has existed since 1840 and was a pioneer in the sale and exhibition of art, and even painting materials. Among other artists, painters of the Paris school such as Santiago Russinyol, Vayreda and even Pablo Picasso himself, have exhibited here.

This street is so dear to the people of Barcelona that at one time even the soprano Montserrat Caballé had one of her rehearsal rooms there.
