Carrer Santa Anna

Carrer Santa Anna  (22)

Very close to Plaça Catalunya, is the Carrer Santa Anna, which goes from the Rambles to the Portal de l’Àngel. Here you will find all kinds of shops, but also at number 29, is the church and cloister of Santa Anna which the uninformed tourist can easily walk straight past.

This is a church in the Greek cross style which conserves its Romanesque structure, even though it is entirely Gothic. It was built from the 12th to the 15th centuries and is very well preserved. It has high ceilings and a wooden dome and its history is linked to the Order of Saint Sepulchre.

You will be surprised by the beautiful and rarely visited cloister. It is square and on two levels, in the late Gothic style with delicate stone columns and a well.
