Font Màgica

Font Màgica (84B)

Walking along the Avinguda Maria Cristina you will come across a large ornamental fountain: La Font Màgica or Magic Fountain.

Specially designed to offer displays of light and water, it is the work of the great engineer Carles Buigas.

He wanted to carry out a special project for the 1929 Universal Exhibition, a work based on water as an element of life and renewal, united to technology and guided by the imagination. Buigas managed to use up to thirty different patterns of water with different colours, taking advantage of the decomposition of light in the seven colours of the rainbow, and as a result the people soon staring called the fountain ‘Magic’.

This magnificent fountain has three concentric pools with a total flow of circulating water of 2,600 litres per second.

Don’t miss the opportunity to see it. It is an almost poetic display of shape and colour. And if you visit during the Mercè Festival, which is celebrated at the end of September, you will be a spectator for a true apotheosis of water, colour, music and fireworks, as this is the event that closes the festival. And it is unique.
