Waxworks Museum

Waxworks Museum (53)

Do you want to stand just a few centimetres away from Jack the Ripper? Have your photo taken beside Marilyn Monroe?

Then, don’t miss the Waxworks Museum. You’ll find it almost at the end of the Rambles, down the Passatge de la Banca, where you will see a small nineteenth-century palace in which History’s most important figures seem to come to life.

This building went up in 1874 to a design of Elias Rogent, the main representative of the Neo-Romanesque and Neo-mediaeval trend in Catalonia. He is best known for the Cloister at Sant Cugat del Vallès, the general stores of the Port of Barcelona and the University of Barcelona.

Inside the museum, beside sages, painters, inventors, thinkers and other great figures of our history, many a surprise awaits you. There is also room for more contemporary history with real and fictional scenes and characters such as Doctor Frankenstein, Mother Teresa of Calcutta, Lady Di and even Princess Leia and Luke Skywalker.

In addition, this museum organises personalised night-time visits, in which a group of actors will guide you in highly spectacular fashion through various scenes from our history.

And if you want to be surprised still further, you have very close by a magic space: close to the Museum entrance is the café called El Bosc de les Fades or the Fairies’ Forest, where you can have something to drink among enchanted trees, flowers and spirits. And if you’re a fan of the ancient art of origami, you must venture into the Passatge del Temps.
