Even without us having to offer you the suggestion, Palau Robert might well be one of your first stops in Barcelona. This is where you will find the Information Centre of Catalonia and its Tourism Office offers everything you want to know about routes, activities, transport and places of interest in Catalonia.
But Palau Robert is also interesting in its own right. It is a neoclassical style building, which Gironan aristocrat Robert i Saurís ordered it to be built as a private residence in the highest part of Passeig de Gracia.
Instead of choosing one of the most highly solicited Catalan modernist architects, Robert decided to trust the Project to the French architect Henri Grandpierre, well-known for his works in the Universal Exhibition of 1900 in Paris. The house was built in stone from the mountain of Montgrí and building work was completed in 1903.
Today you can stroll around the gardens which are open to the public, past the old carriage courtyard, currently converted into a bookshop.
The old coach house in the gardens of the palace is a meeting room today with all the latest technology. All kinds of cultural events take place there such as exhibitions, concerts and presentations.
The palace itself presents themed exhibitions, workshops and audiovisual presentations every six months.
If you want to get to know Catalonia better, or find about all the events and activities offered in Barcelona, come to Palau Robert…we are sure you’ll find something that interests you.
