Ciutadella – Parlament de Catalunya

Ciutadella – Parlament de Catalunya (43D)

Continuing your tour of the Parc de la Ciutadella you will also come across the Parlament de Catalunya (Parliament of Catalonia) and the building that was formerly the Catalan Museum of Modern Art and which has now joined forces with the National Museum of Art of Catalonia) and is located in Montjuïc.

This building is now occupied by the Parliament of Catalonia, which has extended its offices.

In 1932 the original armoury of Philip V in Ciutadella became the seat of the Parliament of Catalonia and it is here that the laws of the autonomous government are discussed and enacted.

The building is adorned with 28 busts by renowned artists and is surrounded by gardens, one of which, the old parade ground, is home to one of the most beautiful and representative of Catalan modernism sculptures: "El Desconsol" (Desolation) Josep Llimona. A delicate female figure that seems to flood an oval pond with her tears.
