Portal de l'Àngel

Portal de l'Àngel (5)

The Portal de l’Angel is one of the most important and busiest shopping streets in Barcelona. It is the old entrance gate to the walled city, which welcomes us into the Gothic quarter of the Barcelona.

Although we can often find a temporary market for ceramics and other local crafts, this street is about serious shopping, especially if you are looking for clothes or shoes. Benetton, Zara, el Corte Inglés, Massimo Dutti, ... even people from outside the city, spending a Saturday shopping in Barcelona choose this street as their starting point.

At the end of Portal de l’Àngel is the magnificent Font de Santa Anna, a drinking fountain which still functions today and which was built beside the animal drinking troughs in 1375 in the midst of the gothic splendour. From here you can go through to the cathedral on the left, or continue shopping in Carrer Portaferrissa if you turn right.
