Situated on Tauentzienstrase Avenue, the Berlin Sculpture, or ´Berlin Skulptur` will grab your attention even from a distance. In fact, you have probably already seen it from afar during your visit to Charlottenburg.
It is a work by Brigitte and Martin Matschinsky-Denninghof that was made in 1987 to commemorate the 750th anniversary of the city’s foundation.
It stands out for its great dimensions and strong symbolism: it is made up of four very thick, slightly twisted metallic tubes which represent the four sectors that the city was once divided into.
It really is worth seeing the sculpture for its historical significance. At the end of the day, it stands as a permanent record of the division which Berliners had to live with until fairly recently.
