Friedrichswerdersche Church

Friedrichswerdersche Church (31)

The Friedrichswerdersche Church was designed by Karl Friedrich Schinkel between 1824 and 1830 to replace a temple in poor condition. As you will see, it is very impressive and an excellent example of the German neo-gothic style.

During the Second World War it was severely damaged by bombing and was not restored properly until the 1980’s.

Nowadays, its interior contains a selection of 19th century sculptures. In the choir gallery there is also a display about the life and work of Schinkel, organised by the National Gallery.
