Lastly, we recommend you visit Charlottenburg’s ´Funkturm` or Berlin Radio Tower.
The Funkturm is otherwise known by Berliners as Langer Lulatsch, which roughly means “gangly young man”. It is one of the many symbols of the German capital.
The tower was built in 1926 and, as you will see, its structure has a steel framework, bearing a close resemblance to that of the Eiffel Tower in Paris. It measures 150 metres high and weighs 600 tonnes.
The first time that the tower broadcasted a television programme was on the 22nd of March 1935. After years of service, it stopped transmitting television signals in 1965 and is now used to transit the systems of radio enthusiasts.
The Funkturm is a protected monument and houses a restaurant at a height of 55 metres and a platform at 125 metres. From the latter you have an impressive view of the city.
