Kurfürstendamm Avenue

Kurfürstendamm Avenue (39)

This is the main avenue in Charlottensburg. It starts in the square Breitscheidplatz and stretches almost three kilometres, consisting of fashion boutiques, cinemas, theatres, cafes, ice-cream parlours, restaurants and hotels. It is really a small microcosm concentrated in just one street.

One of the avenue’s stretches is home to some of the most elegant boutiques. Its sophistication has led it to become a kind of Berlin style Champs Elysees or a version of the Passeig de Gràcia in Barcelona. In fact, some of the most prestigious designers have shops in Kurfurstendamm: Gucci, Bvlgari, Chanel, Cartier, Louis Vuitton and many more.

When Berlin was divided by the wall, Kurfurstendamm became the most important commercial street in West Berlin. Today it retains its unquestionable touch of glamour, however it cannot be said to be the avenue of Berlin ´par excellence` because it is now rivalled by others, like Unter den Linden and Friedrichstrase in Mitte.

If you visit the city in the spring or summer, we recommend you enjoy Kurfurstendamm’s cafe terraces and ice cream parlours which open on to the street as the weather warms up. Here is the ideal place to choose an ice cream, find a seat in the shade and people watch to your heart’s content.
