New National Galery

New National Galery (47)

This is a space given over to art in an environment which exudes art. This impressive building of iron and glass was designed in 1968 by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe.

It is a building which has shown examples of the most important artistic trends of the 20th century.

And in addition to the treasures found in the permanent collection, it houses works by modern and contemporary international artists.

There is also a garden of sculptures, an open-air gallery whose exhibits include ´The Archer` by the British sculptor Henry Moore, ´Tetes et queue`, Heads and tail, by the American Alexander Calder and the piece ´Gudari` by Eduardo Chillida.

The central point of the exhibition is taken up by the German expressionists, among the works on view is one of Berlin’s most famous paintings, ´Potsdamer Platz` by Ernst Ludwig Kirchner. In addition, there is a varied selection of works by other artists like Eduard Munch, Pablo Picasso, Juan Gris, Paul Gauguin, Oskar Kokoschka, Klee, Kandinsky, Miró, Dalí and Giacometti. Interesting temporary exhibitions are also put on here.

This all makes for a very arty visit.
