Shepherd’s Bush (14)

This mainly residential area that is formed around the parkland called Shepherd’s Bush Green is 5 minutes from Notting Hill and 15 from the West End. It is not an area particularly focused on tourism, but is well worth the visit for several reasons.

Firstly, if you are football fan, then Shepherd’s Bush is the home of Queen’s Park Rangers, so if you want to go and see a game then go to the Loftus Road stadium.

Secondly, this is where the famous headquarters of the British Broadcasting Corporation, the BBC, is situated. You can take a two-hour tour of the facilities that goes from the news and weather forecast studios to the sets where programmes such as Top of the Pops or Little Britain are recorded. To go on a tour you must book in advance. On the other hand, there is a possibility of taking part as the audience in the channel’s different programmes.

Finally, you should be aware that Shepherd’s Bush, in which, among others, communities of Poles, Africans, Irish, Syrians and Iranians live alongside each other, fits perfectly the definition of melting pot. The mixing of cultures is clearly reflected in Shepherd’s Bush Market, in which you can find an assorted variety of food from India, Eastern Europe, the Caribbean, the Mediterranean and North Africa.

If you are interested, there are free guided visits that tour the restaurants and shops specialising in Middle Eastern food which are lined up along Uxbridge Road.
