Stratford - ArcelorMittal Orbit Center

Stratford - ArcelorMittal Orbit Center (115)

This construction by Indian sculptor Anish Kapoor is Britain's largest work of art and offers fantastic views of London and beyond, as on a clear day visibility can extend as far as 30 km.

Criticized as much as it is revered, the famous ArcelorMittal Orbit Tower next to the Olympic Stadium has become the new symbol of East London. Those responsible for the design of this sculptural tower, Anish Kapoor and Cecil Balmond, created a tower with a novel shape that does not rise in a straight line but rather in orbital form, with a continuous line that wraps around itself all the way up its 114.5 metre elevation. Or 445 steps, if you prefer. As a curiosity you may be interested to know that 60% of the steel used in the construction was recycled. Not for nothing were the 2012 Olympics Games classified as the most eco-friendly in history. Even so, the tower was an expensive project that cost the City of London 28 million euros.
