Central Park Zoo is one of the most famous attractions of New York. Built in the legendary Central Park, the entrance to this animal micro-world is located on Fifth Avenue and 64th Street.

To discover Central Park Zoo is to discover a charming zoo, home to more than 100 different species, among which the largest one is the polar bear. You should know that here you will not find tigers, nor lions, giraffes or elephants. If you want to see these animals live, you have to go to the Bronx Zoo, the largest zoo in the country, where more than 4,000 species live.

But let us keep discovering the Central Park Zoo. Upon entering, you will be welcomed by the sea lions from their pond. Around this pond you will find three very different natural environments: the Arctic Circle, with its sociable penguins and majestic polar bears; the temperate area, where you can meet a funny monkey family; and the area ofthe tropics, which offers spectacular examples of the flora and fauna in the rainforest.

Although the zoo is rather small, you should know that a quick visit will take at least an hour.

When you have completed your visit, we recommend you make a couple of stops near the zoo.

One to visit the Delacorte Clock: a delightful carillon the philanthropist, George T. Delacorte, dedicated to the city. Which is on top of a red brick arch located near the Central Park Zoo, whereas its peculiarity is that it is decorated with mechanical animals, like a bear, a kangaroo, a penguin and monkeys, who turn around and mark the hours by pounding bells with a hammer.

The other stop would be north of Denesmouth Arch to visit the Tisch Children's Zoo. A very interesting zoo suggestion, with interactive exhibits, where kids and adults can see and touch domestic animals, such as pigs, sheep, goats and cows. It also includes an enchanted forest, specially designed for children under six years.
