The Ghostbusters Headquarters

The Ghostbusters Headquarters (150)

In the neighbourhood of TriBeCa stands an absolute icon of the 1980s. 14 North Moore Street houses the headquarters of the Firehouse, Hook & Ladder Company 8 fire station, but it has been known the world over as the base of the Ghostbusters since the film's release in 1984.

Every tourist who visits recalls Peter, Ray and Egon, the three protagonists of the first film, driving their white Cadillac, known as the Ecto-1, and ghost hunting around Manhattan. Ghostbusters was a box-office hit in the 1980s and starred Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis and Sigourney Weaver, among others. The film was directed by Ivan Reitman , a famous producer, director and writer behind comedies such as Stripes, Twins, Beethoven, Space Jam and numerous other movies that are sure to have made you or your family laugh at some point.

This fire station was built in 1903 to a design by Alexander H. Stevens and was the first in a series of Beaux-Arts style fire stations built around New York. Interestingly, this building used to be twice the size, since it had two entrance and exit doors, but when Varick Street was widened in 1913, the building had to be literally cut in half.

Another curious fact about this old building is that Lego, the famous Danish company that manufactures toy building bricks, launched a replica of the building in its most exclusive series in 2016. It consisted of 4,634 pieces and coincided with the release of the third instalment of Ghostbusters on the big screen.
