Cour de Rohan

Cour de Rohan (52)

If you want go back in time, you should not miss this delightful succession of courtyards that have conserved small cobbled streets and houses since the 17th century.

We recommend you go along Boulevard Saint-Germain and then on to the Cour du Commerce St. André, where you will get the feeling that the time has jumped back and you are walking around in the 18th century. It is a charming street with unique shops that you must see. It is also very close to number 13 Rue de l’Anncien-Comedy, where you can find the oldest café in Paris, Le Procope, open in 1686 and where, for example, Molière, Victor Hugo, Voltaire, Oscar Wilde and Balzac all went.

Through a small alleyway of Cour de Commerce, you will reach Cour de Rohan, which you can also reach if you enter via Rue du Jardinet.

Rohan courtyard depended in the Middle Ages on the palace of the archbishops of Rouen, which explains its name.

The central courtyard is the most singular one. You will still find a piece of iron cast into three legs, which the older or fatter people would use in the past to mount their mules or horses.

Born in this area were figures such as Diana de Poitiers, lover of Henry II, and the composer Saint-Saëns.

As a curiosity, some of the scenes from the famous film Gigi, by Vincent Minelli, were shot in this area.

Without doubt, an interesting visit and, above all, very, very peaceful.
