National Center for Folklore and Popular Culture (61)

A museum to feel the beat of the creative and cultural heart of Rio de Janeiro. An approach to the rich and diverse cultural mix of Brazil. To know more about a nation, you have to know their origins, their customs, their rituals, their cuisine, their art, their beliefs...

This museum is a good starting point. The National Center for Folklore and Popular Culture includes the Edison Carneiro Folklore Museum.

It was founded in 1968.  The museum has an interesting craft collection from all over Brazil, with wooden sculptures, ceramic figurines, etc.; more than 13,000 pieces, 130,000 bibliographic documents and soem 70,000 audiovisual documents.

Its exhibition is organised around five themes: life, technology, religion, art and festivals.

Through research and documentation, the museum promotes actions seeking to know the various popular expressions and their contexts, as well as the constant changes they experience. Furthermore, it supports and disseminates these cultural processes.
