Rio De Janeiro's Zoological Garden - Rio Zoo

Rio De Janeiro's Zoological Garden - Rio Zoo (78)

Getting to the zoo is rarely so rewarding for sure. After crossing the palm avenue, you will find the majestic Monumental Gate in a neoclassic style that the Duke of Northumberland gave to Dom Pedro and Maria Leopoldina of Austria as a wedding gift. A good present for what is Brazil's oldest zoo.

Opened in 1945 and known as the Río Zoo, it extends over an area of over one hundred thirty-eight thousand square metres and boasts more than 350 different animal species, whereas native animals, such as toucans, parrots and different types of monkeys, predominate.

The Zoological Garden of Rio de Janeiro is an ideal place to spend a great day walking around it. Although, if you are accompanied by children, and given its size, it is advisable to dedicate a day to enjoy the park without rushing.
