The city of Seville, capital of Andalusia, has the fourth largest population in Spain, with over 700 000 inhabitants. It is one of the most important artistic and commercial centres in the southern part of the country and has one of the most unique personalities in the whole of Spain, having cleverly marketed its best features.

The city has a rich cultural heritage and exceptional attractions, with most of its legendary sights huddled together in the old quarter, near the east bank of the Guadalquivir River. In fact, it boasts the largest historic quarter in Europe, with a knot of narrow streets that allow you to walk to nearly every point of interest. Lose yourself in this district while visiting its numerous monuments, plazas, gardens and churches, in particular La Giralda, the Torre del Oro, and the Alcázar, which are normally the first stops on the tour. Don’t forget to make your way to Casa de Pilatos or the Maestranza bull ring, or relax and take in a sunset on the banks of the Guadalquivir River. 

The Andalusians, for their part, are very hospitable, with a rather unhurried sense of time and a passion for conversation, among many other things. They typically enjoy life in the streets, as well as good food and drink, especially the excellent wine and tapas. Another distinguishing feature of Sevillians is their extraordinary passion for their religious celebrations and a devotion to the Virgin Mary.

Make sure to watch one of the flamenco shows found throughout the city, and a bullfight as well, two essential traditions for everyone who comes to Seville.
