Café Frauenhuber

Café Frauenhuber (52B)

Himmelpfortgasse, 6.

It is the oldest café in Vienna. And little has changed since 1824, but its history began much earlier. When you walk in the door, you encounter an elegance from another era. Noble woods, crystal chandeliers, damask armchairs in burgundy, classic Thonet chairs and marble tables, large mirrors and beautiful windows. Mozart performed here on more than one occasion for a select group of aristocrats. His last performance was on 4th March 1791, and almost one of the last of his life because a few months later on 5th December of that year he died at the age of 35.

It is an ideal place for a quiet coffee, plus the kitchen offers homemade pastries and cakes, as well as traditional dishes from Vienna. Because of its location it is a good place for a stopover while going shopping and visiting St. Stephen's Cathedral.
